Visiting Beijing felt like a small introduction to China, and one I almost missed out on. When my friend called to tell me about the trip she’d decided to take last minute, I never could have imagined that in two short weeks I’d be taking a nap on the bricks atop the Great Wall of China. After walking all the way to the top, and checking multiple posts for my friends who’d taken the tram, I was slightly exhausted. Lucky for me, there’s plenty of walls to snooze on for those who can handle the heights. Suffice to say, I’ve never regretted being spontaneous, and this trip leaves that record perfectly in tact.

Tobogganing down the Great Wall of China was by far my favorite activity. However from the endless temples to the very creamy foods, you’ll find that Beijing is a small introduction to China indeed, but a taste of what the country has to offer.

So remember, that whether it be a bucket list place you’ve always wanted—or someplace that was never on your radar to begin with—grab the opportunity to explore. You snooze you lose after all.
